British Canoeing Personal Performance Canoe Award Open Water Training Day
This training is designed to develop your personal paddling and decision making skills so you have a fun and safe day out canoeing.
Your Canoe Award training builds your skill, judgment and decision making when journeying. You will gain experience in planning and undertaking canoe journeys on the water in winds up to and including force 3 taking place,
During your Award we will be looking at
Planning & Preparation What you need to know,
Personal Paddling Skills, Developing your flat water strokes to develop efficiency looking at making it smooth and effortless for you as you move around
Open water tactics for you and group: staying safe on open water
Rescue Skills, Personal & group
Safety, Leadership & Group Skills, looking at what makes a safe team and how you can be an integral part of the whole process to make your day out safe & Fun
Self reflexion and development, Helping to make every day a learning day as well as coach feedback & development plan
Course Pre-requisites
• None, You can direct acess any of the personal performance awards as a guide however see below
• A consistent BC 2 Star or BC Paddle Explore Award standard of performance in the appropriate craft is required for anyone starting to work towards the Canoe Award;
• The ability to swim confidently wearing normal paddling clothes
What you need
- In short your normal paddling kit, suitable for grade 2 paddling,
- Buoyancy Aid, Helmet Cag & wetsuit ect.
- Any Safety equipment, eg. Throw bags, Tapes, crabs First Aid kit
