Award Description
This personal performance award is designed to develop your ability to apply appropriate decision making skills for a safe day out white water paddling.

Your White Water Award endorses your kayak skill, judgment and decision making to ensure a successful day on rivers up to grade 2. You will be confident in planning and undertaking journeys on moving water with proficient skills to be in control throughout. Your award should be seen as a sound basis for building the experience and knowledge associated with Progressive White Water Award holders.

During your assessment we will be looking at

Planning & Preparation Prevents poor performance, 
Personal Paddling Skills
, Coving all your strokes and applying it to the WW environment,  looking at making it smooth and effortless for you as you move around the river
Rescue Skills, Covering self, team, victim, kit, the idea is to leave you a more capable member of any paddling team
Safety, Leadership & Group Skills, looking at what makes a safe team and how you can be an integral part of the whole process to make your decent down the river Fun and safe
Self reflexion and development, Helping to make every day a learning day as well as coach feedback & development plan

 

Course Pre-requisites

None, You can direct acess any of the personal performance awards as a guide however see below

You should be able to  provide evidence of at least 8-10 paddling sessions (minimum 40 hours) in varied locations where possible; this should include evidence of having paddled grade 2 water

• A consistent BC 2 Star or BC Paddle Explore  standard of performance in the appropriate craft is required for anyone starting to work towards the White Water Award;

• The ability to swim confidently in moving water, wearing normal paddling clothes

What you need

  • In short your normal paddling kit, suitable for grade 2/3 paddling,
  • Buoyancy Aid, Helmet Cag & wetsuit ect.
  • Any Safety equipment, eg. Throw bags, Tapes, crabs First Aid kit
    Please don’t purchase anything kit wise for the course, unless your just feeling the urge for shinny new kit
  • Packed lunch
  • Hot & cold drinks for the day
  • Snacks
